There was huge excitement at The Grange recently when Magnus Backstedt, highly successful professional international cyclist, and his friend Chris Seviour, cycled into the playground at lunchtime. Harry, Year 5 pupil, stood flabbergasted. All the boys in his year took part in a project to write a formal letter to someone they admire.
Magnus is Vice President of U.K. Youth Charity, which is celebrating its 100th Year of supporting and being involved with youngsters from less privileged backgrounds. Their website is teamukyouth.co.uk
It was complete surprise to the boys and they were thrilled when Magnus and Chris stayed to answer their questions. Boys at The Grange are particularly interested in cycling given that a former pupil, Lewis Oliva, currently in the VI Form at Monmouth School is in the Olympic Development Squad for 2012!
