Halloween pumpkin competition

Back in May, many of the boys paid 50 pence for a young pumpkin plant which Hugh and his mother, Gill, had propagated as a way of nurturing an interest in growing vegetables. The grand “weigh-in’ of the pumpkins, which the boys had grown during the summer, took place this term and everyone was very pleased with the results of the boys’ endeavours.

The winners were:     1st  Jonathan  15 kg, 2nd Joe  11 kg, 3rd Hamish  10 kg

The boys made their pumpkins into Jack O’Lanterns and enjoyed a spooky display of them in the school Hall. Pumpkins grown at the school’s Gardening Club were made into delicious soup which was enjoyed at lunchtime. We have promised to grow even more pumpkins next year to allow for second helpings!
