Prize Giving

The Grange held its annual Prize Giving this Friday to celebrate the success of all pupils and bring the end of the year to a joyous close.  Relatives, friends, staff, governors and Haberdashers all joined the boys in congratulating them on their hard work and achievements throughout the past year.

Mrs Elaine Thomas, Head of the Grange, reflected on the boys’ achievements this year in all areas of school life, including in the classroom, on the sports fields and on the stage. The pupils have performed outstandingly in all that they do and continue to enjoy learning in a happy, busy environment.

Mrs Thomas said, “In this our first full year in our glorious new building, we have enjoyed many highlights.  In September the School building was officially opened by HRH The Earl of Wessex.  The whole school came together again in December to perform Wind in the Willows to a full house at the Blake Theatre.  The Grange has continued to excel in sport, music, and in chess, where we regained the Wales Intertown Chess Championship title together with the Welsh Primary Schools’ title.  I would like to thank the boys and staff for their hard work, enthusiasm and sense of fun over the past school year.”

The Head Boy, James, gave a highly-polished summary of his four years at The Grange and all the happy memories he has stored up as he moves on to Monmouth School in September.

Master of the Haberdashers, Mr George Pulman QC, addressed the boys, giving them excellent advice on how to handle failure as well as success, and his wife, Penelope, then handed out prizes to the boys.

The Headmaster Dr Steven Connors brought the proceedings to an end by wishing pupils and parents a happy summer.  Guests then had the chance to listen to the school orchestra, band and choir perform and see a colourful and varied display of the boys’ artwork.
