In a dazzling showcase of musical skill and creativity, the annual student-led talent extravaganza, Monmouth’s Got Talent, took centre stage at our very own Blake Theatre this past week, with contestants performing to a packed auditorium.

Spearheaded by the Senior Prefects from Monmouth School for Boys, Monmouth School for Girls, and Monmouth Comprehensive School, the event boasted a stellar lineup of performances featuring a diverse range of talents. From ukulele melodies to renditions of classic tunes, the theatre was alive with the energy and enthusiasm of young performers.

A standout moment came from the dynamic duo Tabitha and Isabel of Monmouth School for Girls, who delivered an amazing rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Misérables, captivating the beautiful emotion of the piece.

Not to be outdone, Sam C from Monmouth School for Boys left a lasting impression with his soul-stirring performance of “Black” by Pearl Jam, citing early 1990’s rock bands as his inspiration.

Meanwhile, Emily W of Monmouth School for Girls wowed the audience with her interpretation of “Memory” from Cats, while Sam R from Monmouth School for Boys rocked the house with a lively rendition of “Crossroads” by Cream.

Adding to the lively atmosphere were the charismatic comperes Charlie F and Mila B from Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools, who led the audience with their quick wit and infectious humour.

Judging fell upon Director of Music at Monmouth School for Girls, Derek Harris, Director of Music at Monmouth School for Boys, David Lawson and Ms Amy Ritter, Head of Music at Monmouth Comprehensive School. After much deliberation, Florence emerged as the overall winner with her electrifying performance of “Feelin’ Good.”

Beyond the glittering performances, Monmouth’s Got Talent served a noble cause, rallying the school communities together to raise funds to support local charities. This year, the event raised over £1000 for The Ted Senior Foundation, dedicated to promoting mental well-being, and The Wye and Usk Foundation, committed to preserving the ecological health of the River Wye amidst pollution threats.
