Students shine in sell-out performance of Blue Stockings

Enthralled audiences enjoyed a wonderful production of Blue Stockings, a play by Jessica Swale, about the fight for equal rights in education, set in the late 1890’s.

Students from Haberdashers’ Monmouth School wowed sell-out audiences with their heartfelt performances, moments of well-delivered humour, philosophical delivery and carefully executed stage-combat skills.

Alfie B, in Year 13, who played a lecturer, said: “It was a really fantastic experience and took me out of my comfort zone…this play had a message that I believe is pertinent to this day.”

Dilys M, in Year 11, who played lead character Tess Moffat, said: “Blue Stockings was an excellent choice of play. It’s emotional, powerful and feminist. Taking part in this project was an absolute honour.”

The production of “Blue Stockings” not only showcased the dramatic arts talent within our school, but as the curtains closed, it was evident that the students had not only entertained but also inspired audiences with their portrayal of a pivotal moment in history.
